hey readers! It’s been a while since I last blogged. Sorry about that!

Anyway… This is my friend Alex. About 8 months ago, she started her own etsy shop (Purl One Knit One or P.O.K.O.). I shot her fall line a while back and she wanted to do a refresh featuring her new items for winter! Well here it is! The prices are pretty cheap too! so if you think the items are cute, go check out her etsy store and purchase it! =)

Haha. Yeah you heard me. Halloween! hahaha. This entry is quite backlogged but you know what? Better late than never right? Haha. In all seriousness, this was from an open house for a Kumon Learning Center in the Bay Area. They decided that it would be fun to mash up Halloween and their open house together to get their students and their employees a chance to dress up and have fun while prospective parents learned about the nuts and bolts of Kumon (it’s an after school tutoring center).

They had asked me to put up a photo booth for them during the event so I could capture all the awesome characters that came through the door. So here they are!

All the employees were Disney characters… can you guess what characters they are?

T

This one was a really awesome one! She made it herself. Super cute right?!

A lot of the kids were dressed like Star Wars characters. A LOT!

A lot…. of star wars.

Seriously… a LOT!

I decided that I wanted to see if I could challenge myself, reinvent myself, rethink photography and what it means to me and the means of how I turn moments into memories. Zack Arias actually was the catalyst to it all, with his stunning short video to encourage and inspire photographers. To continue to evolve myself and my photography was what I took from the video. So with that decided, I wanted the main focus to be on off camera lighting. I mean… finding natural light is good and all… But I bought two flashes for a reason right? They were lonely and a small film of dust covered them. So with my flashes, light modifiers, pocket wizards and a lovely friend to help me out I was off to the races.

Boy was the start of that day ridiculous (to say the least)! I started off trying to do off camera lighting work with iTTL via McNally. When that didn’t work out all that well, I tried to do manual settings on the flash while I was in aperture priority. Total FAIL. Then I got everything into manual and then I did a lot of ridiculousness. Flash was overexposes my subject? Am I changing shutter speed or aperture? Wait… why am I on a shutter speed of 1/5000th of a sec? What is going ON?! FINALLY though I got the hang of everything! It’s as if everything clicked into place. Aperture controls flash. Shutter controls ambient. Don’t exceed your sync speed (wow I actually know what it is now) etc. etc. etc. Not to say that I’m a lighting genius now. But dang… fiddle around for a couple hours and things really do come into play.

Before I get into all the photos, I had another shoot the next day. We were really crunched on time and decided to go do some “on location” shooting. No time to fiddle with lights, modifiers, etc. etc. So I decided to go back to my old ways, my comfort zone. I guess I want you readers to look at the two different styles and give me some constructive criticism. Like the new? Love the old? Hate them all? Comment away!

I’ll start off with the “Hair Flinging” series. hahaha

So I’ve always known in the back of my head that Diana made jewelry. But somehow it was always stuck in the back of my head. haha. How about we start from the beginning? We met at my first ever Live Feed “get-away” up in Napa. She just had surgery on her foot so she really couldn’t walk around too much and she couldn’t go swim/hottub either. But she however did bring her box of jewelry making magic. Commenting on how awesome her jewelry looked one of the afternoons, I was then greeted by her very witty and very sarcastic sense of humor. “Oh SNAPs… Nuh uh girl… you didn’t just start with a crack at me.” And so that’s how we met. Fast forward months later, Di’s sense of humor is still as dry and sarcastic as ever (similar to mine, maybe that’s why we get along soooo well…(by cracking jokes at each other)), her jewelry is still as beautiful and as fashionable as ever, but now she wanted memories of the stuff that she made! That’s where I come in… and that’s where this post comes in…. If you guys see anything you like here, lemme know! Maybe we can work something out! =) On to the PICTURES!

These two were made for her coworker’s wedding. awesome no?!
